Rebecca Evans AM, the newly elected Assembly Member for Gower, will be joining other fundraisers and volunteers to WALK IT for Crohn’s and Colitis UK as they walk either a 5k or 10k route along Swansea Bay waterfront.
The WALK IT event, which will be launched by Geraint Davies MP, commences from the Junction Cafe in Black Pill where walkers will follow the coastline path and enjoy magnificent views across Swansea Bay. Speaking ahead of the walk, Mrs Evans said: “More than 300,000 people in the UK suffer from a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) such as Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, yet it is largely a hidden disease, and one that causes stigma, fear and isolation. "Taking part in event such as WALK IT event will, I hope, raise vital funds and awareness and acceptance of IBD. It is thought that many people with the condition go undiagnosed and suffer in silence. This walk shows that there is no need to be embarrassed or afraid of seeking help, because you are not alone.” At the registration point will be an array of food and drink, music, entertainment and more. There will also be a child's paddling pool and the nearby beaches to enjoy! Starting the event Geraint Davies MP said: “I was thrilled to launch Crohn’s and Colitis UK’s WALK IT in Swansea, and to see so many people taking part. “As well as a fantastic opportunity to raise much needed funds for charity, WALK IT was also a chance for people to come together to raise awareness and show support to the thousands of people living with these lifelong, debilitating, and often little understood conditions.” Comments are closed.
