Rebecca Evans, AM for Gower, has welcomed the expansion of the Blue Badge scheme, which comes into force this week.
The scheme which provides parking concessions to people with disabilities will now be extended to offer temporary, 12 month badges for people recovering from or awaiting treatment for serious illnesses or injuries. Rebecca Evans who has previously Chaired the Assembly's Cross Party Group on Disabilities, said: "The new criteria means that people can have a temporary Blue Badge while they recover from or await treatment for a serious illness or injury. "Being able to get out and about is an important part of recovery and maintaining independence, so this is very good news for people who may need a Blue Badge for a relatively short period. "Wales now has the widest eligibility criteria in the whole of the UK for Blue Badges." Notes to editors: Examples of eligibility for the badge include: - A person recovering from complex leg fractures sometimes managed with external fixators for periods of well over a year - A person recovering from stroke or head injury that has impacted on their mobility - A person recovering from spinal trauma which impacts their mobility - A person with a serious illness where the treatment may be debilitating, for example treatment for cancer - A person with severe functional leg impairments who is awaiting or who has undergone joint replacement (e.g. unilateral or bilateral hip, knee, etc) Comments are closed.
