Rebecca Evans AM, Assembly Member for Gower, has welcomed the decision by the Welsh Government’s Health Minister to extend the NHS Wales Bursary scheme to 2022/23.
Rebecca Evans said: “The NHS bursary is for student nurses, midwives and allied health professionals in Wales. It shows that at a time of threat to the NHS, the Welsh Government continues to support people into these fields, in order to give the best health care possible to the people of Gower and across Wales. “Many people find that finance is a barrier to going into these profession, so this bursary will continue to help new students into the field. Compare this to the approach of the UK Government which scrapped NHS bursaries in England in 2017 and replaced them with tuition fees and loans.” The extension of the bursary in Wales means that the full bursary package will continue to be available to those who commit to working in Wales for up to two years post qualification.
