Following action by local Labour representatives, new investigation work is being undertaken in order to try and establish the cause of the overflowing manholes in Osborne Place in Crofty.

Following a recent site visit convened jointly by Gower Assembly Member Rebecca Evans, Penclawdd Councillor Mark Thomas, and Community Councillor Mike Harry, with Natural Resources Wales and Dŵr Cymru, arrangements have been put in place to complete additional investigation work.

During periods of rain, the manholes surcharge, allowing sewage and storm water onto the street. The cause is currently unknown, although there have been previous efforts to establish the source of the problem.

Assembly Member for Gower, Rebecca Evans said: "Following a productive site meeting in Crofty, I am pleased that this issue is being investigated further, with Dŵr Cymru carrying out an additional investigation on top of the work that has already been done at the site.

"I hope that this further investigation can identify the cause of the flooding problem, and provide a satisfactory preventative solution."

Local Councillor for Penclawdd, Mark Thomas said: "During rainfall, the overload of the sewer pipes means that the manhole covers are raised and sewage spills out onto the road and can run near the playground and out into the estuary.

"We had a constructive site meeting and I look forward to seeing the results of the investigation early in the New Year."

Community Councillor, Mike Harry, said: "This is a major issue for people living locally, and I am glad that we have been able to work in partnership to secure new action."

Dŵr Cymru will provide the representatives with an update on the findings early in the New Year.
