Gower Assembly Member, Rebecca Evans AM, is making families aware of the Welsh Government’s grant to assist people on low incomes in buying school uniform and equipment for their children. Rebecca Evans AM said: “Affordability of school uniforms is crucial for families, especially for those who are being hit hard after nine years of austerity.” Learners in receipt of free school meals can receive the grant if they are entering primary school in Reception, Year 3, Year 7, or Year 10. Pupils in special schools and pupil referral units will be eligible when entering Reception and Year 7. The funding is also available to all Looked After Children of compulsory school age. Funding of up to £125 is available for each eligible learner with the exception of those entering Year 7 who will be entitled to a maximum of £200. Mrs Evans added: “Constituents, including pupils themselves, have raised the importance of affordability of school uniforms with me. Looking forward to a new year at school shouldn’t be overshadowed by worry about how to pay for uniforms and essential kit. The Welsh Government is committed to tackling all forms of poverty, and finding creative ways to do so.” Comments are closed.
